The Evolution of Mann

The Mann Library renovation is a dynamic reassessment of the architectural needs of the upper Cornell campus—dealing with contemporary needs of the Cornell community while preserving critical traces of its history…

Dept. of Landscape Architecture

On August 20, 2007, we re-opened the front doors to Mann Library! Inside the building, you'll find fabulous new spaces designed to facilitate research, creative thought, and lively interaction. The spatial transformation is remarkable. While retaining the beauty of the original Art Deco interiors, the architect updated the 1950's-era building into a modern life sciences facility with an outstanding library on four floors and cutting edge laboratories and faculty offices on the top two floors. Seventy years ago, Albert Mann, former dean and provost of the university, envisioned Mann Library as the educational center of the upper campus. It's a vision that continues to inspire us today.

We're not quite done with all the finishing touches but it's our pleasure to introduce you to some of the features of the newly-renovated library.
